RunningMoms was started by 5 moms who are raising families and still fitting time into their schedules to take care of themselves. We hope to share what has worked for us with other moms trying to balance, family, life, and fitness. RunningMom's vision is to be a site that provides information for moms that need balance in all aspects of their lives, while also providing a group organization (not for profit) that gives back to our communities. A site that encourages and perseveres to help women of all walks of life, all backgrounds, and all cultures to be the best moms they can be and to "fit" their fitness into the routine of their daily lives. Please continue to visit this site because we have a calling to do great things through this organization.
My name is Nikki Sims. I have been married for fourteen years and I have two beautiful children. My son is ten years old and my daughter is four. I have been a stay at home mom for ten years. Believe it or not, I have a hard time picturing myself doing anything else. Running came into my life around seven years ago. I found myself searching for something, a challenge maybe, it is hard to define the feeling...anyway, I decided to try running. I loved it! Yes, it was hard; I didn't know what I was doing and I didn't go very far, but there was a freedom that accompanied the sweat and the hard breathing that made it worthwhile. I stuck with it; it is easier now and it is still my very favorite thing to do. Running is my escape from the stresses of homework and getting a dinner on the table that everyone will eat, but more than that, it keeps me healthy and happy. My family has to do for themselves sometimes while I'm out running, but I know they don't mind because I am a better wife and mother for it. My only hope is that I pass on my love for running to my children so we can all be healthy and happy together!
Good luck and happy running!!
Hi moms of all ages and abilities! As you can tell by the title, I am Kristy. I wouldn't call myself a serious runner. I am just a lady who likes to get out there and spend some time with people who bring joy to my life. I am a procrastinator, mother, teacher, wife, and novice runner. I like to put things off as long as possible, even my runs. I am writing this because I am currently being threatened by my overachiever friends who believe that anything done well is done early. :) Just kidding! I love the girls who made me do this. I guess that could sum up my running journey; someone (Edna) kept telling me, "Let's do this!" She had so much enthusiasm, and I just couldn't say no to this cute little person who made it sound so easy. I acutally began running in high school, but I let that slip away as life gave way to a family and a career. I started back about 2 years ago, but didn't get really serious about having a schedule until December of '08. That was when I hooked up with Edna and she began filling me with her joy for running. Since then, I have just gone with the flow and continued to run. Now, on rare occasions, I actually enjoy it. I still hate the first two miles, but if I can get through those, I know it will be a good day.
Hello moms! My name is Mary Maddox. I have two boys, ages 6 yrs and 18 months. I am a Biological Scientist, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a runner, and everyday, I'm just "mom". After I had my second child, I was looking for a way to get back in shape and get healthy. I found running. What I love about running is that it doesn't require a lot of money to get started. For me, a good pair of running shoes and a sports bra, were my only initial investment. I don't need to drive to the gym (or pay for a membership). I just lace up my shoes and head out my front door into my neighborhood. My husband travels quite a bit with his job. Over the last year I have taught myself how to manage my time in order to take care of two growing boys, work, and find time for everything else. I hope to be able to share my experiences and what has worked for me, with other moms through runningmoms.org!
Hello Running and/or Walking Moms! My name is Edna Reed. I am one of our founders and I am a running mom. I have five children, three of my own and a stedaughter and stepson. I am a 5th grade teacher, an active serving member in my church's children ministry, a wife, a friend, a colleague, and a runner! I try to keep a balance in my life and to always make time for the important things...and not just the urgent things!! My schedule doesn't allow much time for television viewing and I don't get to read as many novels as I'd like, but I know that I get to choose what my time is used for and prioritize it all. Things that mean the most to me get done. I also believe in whatever you choose for your hands to do, to do it well.... so therefore, excellence is a must.
